The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest Departments in the Government (Autonomous) College, Rajahmundry, producing nearly 1600 candidates every year.

• The department traces its origin back to 1891 when the college was affiliated with the University of Madras.
• The B.Sc. course with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry combination was introduced in 1930.
• The Post Graduate Course in Mathematics was introduced in 1971-1972, making it the only college to offer a PG Mathematics course after Andhra University in the state at that time.
• The B.Sc. course with Mathematics, Physics, Geology and Mathematics, Chemistry, Geology combinations was started in 1959.
• Restructured courses with group combinations of Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science were introduced in 2000-2001.
• B.Sc. Mathematics, Economics, Statistics and Mathematics, Physics, Electronics groups were started in 2008-2009.
• New Restructured courses with group combinations of Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science and Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics were introduced in 2017-2018.
• Further New Restructured courses with combinations like Mathematics, Physics, Renewable Energy; Mathematics, Electronics, Internet of Things; Mathematics, Geology, Computer Science; and Mathematics, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry were started in 2018-2019.

The Department of Mathematics at the college offers a diverse range of programs catering to various academic interests and career paths. These include:

1. Two Undergraduate (UG) Courses B.Sc. Mathematics Honours, B.Sc. Computational Mathematics Honours

2. One Postgraduate (PG) Course  M.Sc. Pure Mathematics

3. Two Certificate Courses

Since its inception, the department has maintained an illustrious faculty, upholding a tradition of academic excellence. This legacy continues to the present day, with the department having established a reputation for its outstanding quality of education.

The department takes pride in the success of its students, who go on to pursue higher studies and research at prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Central Universities, and renowned universities abroad.

Furthermore, the department's alumni have achieved remarkable accomplishments in various fields. Many have secured admissions to the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other prestigious management institutions, as well as institutions specializing in Operations Research and Statistics. Additionally, the department's graduates have found placements in diverse companies across sectors.

Notably, the department has also produced successful candidates who have been selected for prestigious government services, including the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).
