Youth Red Cross (YRC)

Youth Redcross of Andhra Pradesh was formed on 26th June 2001 with the assent of His Excellency the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and President, A.P. State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society, Hyderabad. It is led by a Nodal Officer along with four team leaders in the age group of 18years to 20 years.

The Youth Red Cross (YRC) of Government College Autonomous in Rajahmundry is a vibrant and dynamic organization dedicated to humanitarian service and community development. As an integral part of the college's social outreach, the YRC plays a significant role in fostering a spirit of volunteerism, empathy, and social responsibility among the students.

One of the primary objectives of the YRC is to promote health and well-being. Through various initiatives such as blood donation drives, health camps, and awareness programs, the YRC encourages students to take an active interest in healthcare issues and contribute towards creating a healthier society. The organization also collaborates with healthcare professionals and NGOs to organize workshops and seminars on topics like first aid, hygiene, and disease prevention.

In addition to healthcare initiatives, the YRC is actively involved in disaster management and relief efforts. Training sessions on disaster preparedness, rescue operations, and relief distribution are conducted regularly to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond effectively during emergencies. The YRC also coordinates relief activities during natural disasters such as floods, cyclones, and earthquakes, providing essential supplies and support to affected communities.

Apart from its core focus areas, the YRC also engages in various community service projects aimed at addressing social issues and promoting sustainable development. Activities like cleanliness drives, tree plantation campaigns, and literacy programs are organized to instill values of environmental conservation and social welfare among the students.

SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

1. Humanity : The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavors, in its international and national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.

2. Impartiality : It makes no discrimination as to nationally, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress.

3. Neutrality : In orders to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or engage in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

4. Independence : The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the Movement.

5. Voluntary service : It is voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.

6. Unity : There can be only one Red Cross Or Red Crescent in any one country. It must be open to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

7. Universality : The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all societies have equal status and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.

The Indian Red Cross Society aims to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times, all forms of humanitarian activities so that suffering can be minimized, alleviated and even prevented, thus contribute to creating a more congenital climate for peace.

Valuing the role of Young People

Youth Red Cross programmes are an integral part of the strategic approach taken by the
Indian Red Cross Society. We value the diverse and important roles that young people perform as
innovators, inter-cultural ambassadors, peer educators, community mobilisers, and most importantly,
agents of behavioural change and advocates for vulnerable people.
When working alongside older generations in a spirit of mutual respect, young people bring much
needed ideas and skills. The promotion of knowledge transfer and growth, combined with the personal
guidance that older, more experienced volunteers of the Red Cross can offer, is seen as a key
approach to developing tomorrow's generation of leaders, today.

Our youth programmes help the Indian Red Cross Society to implement the Fundamental principles of our Movement through:

International Humanitarian Law
The protection of health and life
Community service
Promotion of national and international friendship and understanding by using the international links of the Movement
