Brief History:
- The Government College Rajahmundry is situated on the banks of the Sacred Godavari and was established in 1853, completing 160 years of service in higher education.
- It is the first and the oldest college in Andhra Pradesh, imparting quality education for decades.
- The College was affiliated to the University of Madras in 1891, and the library was simultaneously started.
- The college library has a rare collection of books, with excellent resources in Physics, Chemistry, English Literature, Telugu Literature, Urdu Literature, etc.
- It has been serving as a Reference Library for research scholars.
- The Government College General Library is user-focused, innovative, and excellence-driven.
- The library has always benefited from the institution’s culture and is a pioneer in adopting new technology.
- The General Library manages knowledge in both print and digital formats, ensuring seamless discovery and access to scholarly resources.
- It provides faculty, students, and staff with professional support to find, evaluate, manage, and use such resources.
- The library offers a high-quality ambiance for both reflective and collaborative work and study.
- Its collection of about 81,600 items is used by more than 3500 members and others.
- The library is under CCTV surveillance for security.
- It is fully automated and integrated with Soul 3.0 and RFID technology for better management and tracking.
Renovation Plans :
Government College Library has planned for a major renovation of its building infrastructure and other facilities including digitalization of rare books. The plan envisages complete face lift of its entrance and circulation area, with a beautiful lobby and exhibit area, reorganization of reference and periodicals reading halls, providing a variety of users spaces for individual and group studies, creation of digital knowledge lab and language lab, improved staff work areas and a large reading hall, the library will have the ambiance and facilities comparable with the best libraries.

Working hours: 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM
Holidays declared by the Institute administration.
Note: The Library arranges to open late hours during the examinations. However, library administration manages to open library from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm in holidays on demand of users

Collection
The library has a rich collection of books on Science, humanities and social sciences and a literature collection in the areas of. The library also has a very good collection of bound volume of old (Since 1800) and new periodicals, codes and, standards etc. The total collection of the library as on 31st March 2024 is as following:
- Books (Reference, General) = 81,594
- SC/ST Book Bank = 6,423
- Rare books = 2500
