Research and extension are the backbone of any academic institution of Higher Education and more so to the Government College(Autonomous) Rajahmundry. It is with this view the Crystal Growth &Nano Science Research Centre was set up in 2009-10. Nine Departments in the college are recognized as research centres and 12 Doctoral degrees, 02 M.Phil Degrees have been awarded under the supervision of the college faculty during the last 5 years. The College faculty grabbed the prestigious Indian Raman Post-Doctoral Fellowship to carry out post-doctoral research at United States of America during the academic year 2016-17. The College is having the collaborative research work with BARC, Mumbai, RRCAT, Indore, NPL, Delhi and JNTU, Hyderabad. The Department of Physics has applied Indian prestigious projects Mission Innovation #3 and #5 in collaboration with Conn Centre for Renewable Energy Research, University of Louisville, KY, USA. The Nanoscience Research Center has filed a patent on “High bright blue light from Indium doped Gallium Oxide” as a part of its successful DAE-BRNS research project

Under Extension, the College has conducted National Level Refresher Course titled ‘ Experimental Physics’ in association with three Indian National Institutions i.e, Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, National Academy of Sciences, Ahmadabad, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi. The College faculty and Post Graduate students have got selections for Summer Research Fellowships under Teacher and Student category from IASc, Bangalore. The fulltime Research Scholars and Post Graduate students have published 45 research publications in reputed International journals and Conferences as a part of their research projects.
