Department of Public Adminstration

INTRODUCTION

Public Administration is at the heart of administration. Everyone from school onward learns about government and without proper understanding of the administration, innovation in policy would slow to a crawl. Legislators are chiefly responsible for bringing new laws and policies to their system. However, the administrators are the professionals who handle the detailed planning process before implementing a new programme. The reality behind inter-departmental cooperation is communication.

Public administration expertise isn’t just limited to government work. Non-profit organisations (NPO) that focus on policy-related causes, need expertise of public policy to understand how government works.

With this perspective, the Department of Public Administration offers few Undergraduate programmes. The syllabus is prepared as per the broad guidelines given by the UGC, APSCHE and Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajamahendravaram. Yet, the Board of Studies incorporated numerous topics in the syllabus at appropriate places as per local requirements and also for wholistic understanding of the subject. The syllabus is also framed keeping in view the job requirements of the market and preparing the students for higher studies.

HIGHLIGHTS

One of the oldest departments in the college, established in the first quarter of Twentieth century.

The under graduate programme B.A. PPT (Philosophy, Public Administration and Special Telugu) was started in 1916 and was first affiliated to the University of Madras and subsequently to the Andhra University, Visakhapatnam (when Andhra University was established in 1926).

To provide more job opportunities to students, a new market oriented restructured course B.A. P.RD.SW (Public Administration, Rural Development, Social Work) was started from the Academic Year 2018-19 in English medium with a sanctioned strength of 30.
