    Profile of the Department 

  • The Department of Commerce offering B.Com (EM) and B.Com (TM) programmes from 1930.
  • Pre - University Course in Commerce was introduced in the year 1957.
  • In 1958 degree course in B.Com was introduced in continuation to Pre-University course.
  • In 1971 the two year course in Commerce was separated to form Government Junior College.
  • Post-Graduation course in Commerce (M.Com) was introduced in affiliation to Andhra University during the academic year 1987-88.
  • The college was conferred autonomy in the year 2000-01.
  • From 2016-17 Post Graduation Course is affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University
  • In the year 2017-18, B.Com Computers (TM) and B.Com (BIFS) Programmes were introduced.
  • BBA Programme was introduced from the academic year 2018-19.
  • B.com (AT) in 2019, B.Voc (RM) in 2019, BBA logistics in 2019, BBA (DM) in 2020.
  • The Post-graduate programmes were conferred autonomy in the year 2018-19
  • The Department of Commerce has 27 faculty members with 6 Doctorates and 11 JRF/NET/SLET qualified faculties and remaining are pursing Ph.D.
  • The Faculty members published 26 Books/Chapters and more than 60 Research Articles in various referred National and International Journals and also organised many national and international seminars and workshops. and
  • M.Com Students also involved in Research activities as part of curriculum.

Mission:

  • To prepare students for higher and professional education.
  • To adopt innovative pedagogical strategies using ICT in teaching, learning and evaluation process.
  • To provide consultancy services in the areas of Commerce and Management Studies ; and
  • To design and develop market based academic programs in Commerce and Management Studies to facilitate for Industry Institution interaction.

Best Practices

Commerce Lab:

The establishment of ‘Commerce Lab’ is proposed by the Department of Commerce as part of its innovative and best practices.The Commerce Lab is the place, where the students can express their ideas and get guidance on implementation. The students can get guidance from the experienced in-house faculty and industry experts to come up with innovative business ideas for practical implementation. The Department of Commerce is actively involved in identifying the potential skills among the students in the areas of Commerce and Business Management. . It is also encouraging the students to come forward and actively participate in Commerce Lab activities. The objective of the Lab are: Making students to apply their theoretical knowledge for practical situations; Igniting the young minds to think in development and promotion of new businesses/start-ups ideas; Providing an environment in which the students can sharpen their knowledge and skills for starting a new business; and Guiding and helping the students in project/start-up business proposal preparation. Department Magazine:

The Department of Commerce is having 20 faculty members and above 1000 students. Department magazine is being released every year with articles contributed by the students and faculty members. The release of magazine every year facilitates for encouraging the students to come up with their innovative ideas and knowledge in the form of articles, poetry, puzzles etc...(For more)

Student Exchange Programme:

The ‘Student Exchange Programme’ has been initiated by the college with SKR Women’s College and SKVT College for exchange of students between the respective colleges for making students exposed to diversified intellectual capital and for a better learning experience and the Department has actively involved in this programme. The students of B.Com (Comp) Programme are sent to the above mentioned colleges and the students of those colleges have attended this as part of this SEP initiative for a better learning experience.(For more)

Helping to Poor Students & Orphans:

The department has started the Poor Students and Orphans Fund to aid the poor and orphan students in higher education. As part of this programme every year poor students of the B.Com programme are identified and they are given some financial aid to complete their education.(For more)

Virtual Class Teaching:

The College is having 5 Virtual Class rooms for better teaching learning experience by the college and other college students in the district. The Department is using this facility for commerce students to present lectures with demonstration mode and online learning and benefiting the students of other Government colleges in the district.(For more)


Market Fest:

The department conducts ‘Market Fest’ to make the students to take active role in this programme and to understand the practical marketing skills. Many students have participated in this programme by investing some capital in the business in the areas of cotton textiles, fancy items, FMCG items gaming and puzzles and even public have showed interest in this programme.(For more)
