B.Sc Mathematics

The Master of Science in Mathematics program is designed to create professionals equipped with practical knowledge of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Programming. This two-year, four-semester program, introduced in 1971, offers an optimal blend of mathematical theory and its applications.

With the emergence of modern computing facilities, the applications of mathematics have become extremely important across engineering, medical sciences, and financial sectors. This has led to an extraordinary demand for technically qualified individuals with strong mathematical skills. However, most courses available focus either on pure mathematics or a combination of pure and applied mathematics with limited computer programming knowledge.

The M.Sc. in Mathematics program addresses this gap. Subjects related to Applied Mathematics and Statistics train students to use modern computational tools to solve real-life problems relevant to industry and society. These applied courses are complemented by foundation courses in pure mathematics, providing students with a sound working knowledge and strong mathematical base necessary to address computational and statistical challenges encountered in various areas of science and technology

Intake

40 candidates shall be admitted every year.

Course Structure

The course follows a credit-based 4-semester (2-year) structure.

  • There will be two semesters in a year.
  • Each semester will consist of 15-16 weeks of instructions including seminars, projects, and assignments.
  • At the end of each semester, candidates will be assessed as per the institute's norms.
