Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest and most esteemed departments of Government (Autonomous) College, Rajahmundry. Established in 1891, alongside the college’s affiliation with the University of Madras, the department has played a pivotal role in advancing mathematical education for over a century. Today, it remains one of the largest departments on campus, serving nearly 1600 students every year.

Over the decades, the department has expanded its academic offerings in response to emerging disciplines and societal needs:

1930: Introduction of the B.Sc. program with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

1959: Launch of new B.Sc. combinations including Mathematics–Physics–Geology and Mathematics–Chemistry–Geology.

1971–1972: Introduction of the M.Sc. Mathematics program, making the college the first in the state after Andhra University to offer a postgraduate degree in Mathematics.

2000–2001: Introduction of restructured courses including Mathematics–Statistics–Computer Science and Mathematics–Physics–Computer Science.

2008–2009: Addition of Mathematics–Economics–Statistics and Mathematics–Physics–Electronics combinations.

2017–2018: Launch of specialized combinations such as Mathematics–Statistics–Actuarial Science and Mathematics–Statistics–Econometrics.

2018–2019: Introduction of innovative programs including Mathematics–Physics–Renewable Energy, Mathematics–Electronics–Internet of Things, Mathematics–Geology–Computer Science, and Mathematics–Chemistry–Analytical Chemistry.
