The Department of Political Science at Government College Autonomous Rajahmundry traces its origins back to 1930 with the launch of the BA program, followed by its formal establishment as a distinct department in 1958.
1930: The Bachelor of Arts (BA) course combining Economics, History, and Political Science was first introduced.

The academic study of public administration evolved through the Department of Political Science, tracing roots back to foundational arts programs introduced in the early 20th century.
1932: The Department of Political Science introduced its earliest combined undergraduate course structure with Geography and History (GHP).1973: An Economics, History, and Political Science (EHP) undergraduate program was launched, embedding core systems of governance and public administration.2018: Specialized multidisciplinary paths expanded with combinations like Public Administration, Philosophy, and Applied Telugu (PPPAT).2022–2023: Modern restructured degree pathways were added, including specialized courses in Public Policy, Principles of Public Administration, and e-Governance in India.
Political science is the art and science of governance. It is an important basis for humanistic studies, and has been a concern of intellectuals since the times of Aristotle.
