BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • Establishment of the department – 1953
  • Plinth area of the department – 661 sq mts
  • P.U.C. was introduced in 1958 and discontinued during 1969- 1970
  • M.sc. Botany was introduced in 2009
  • The Dept of Botany had established  J.C. BOSE research laboratory in 2011
  • Pond Ecosystem was established and being maintained since  2012
  •   The Botanical Garden was developed in 2016 and being maintained till date.
  • Green house  was established in 2011 and renovated in 2016 inclusive Shade net
  • Herbal medicinal garden was developed in 2018
  • The admitted strength in all the groups is having diversity of Pupils with rural as well as urban background covering  diversified academic background.
  • Parental education is also lacking and majority is from Working class(Daily wages, farmer oriented)
  • The percentage of admitted strength has been on the increase during 2017-18
  • The pattern of teaching in this Institution reflects the admissions, though there are many Educational Institutions are there in the Rajahmundry
  • Nearly 50% of the students are being admitted in UG & PG from reserved categories and minorities.

Highlights of the Department

  1. Dr. A. Srinivasa Rao is an author of Botany Text Book for I Semester aegis Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE), GoAP.
  2. Dr.A.Srinivasa Rao is one of the two members committee and drafted state-wide C.B.C.S. Curriculum - Syllabus for U.G. courses of Botany, Horticulture, Organic farming, Seed technology and Forestry aegis APSCHE, APCCE and Adikavi Nannaya University.
  3. Dr. A. Srinivasa Rao drafted syllabus of two Skill Development Courses (Plant Nursery; Fruits and Vegetables Preservation) and one Life Skill Course (Environmental Education) for U.G. students in Andhra Pradesh.
  4. Dr. A. Srinivasa Rao adjudicated two Ph.D. theses (one from Madras University, Chennai and other from Annamalai University, Chidambaram) in 2019 and 2020.
  5. Dr. J. Suneetha underwent FIP Programme during 2005 – 2007 and was awarded Ph.D.,
  6. State Best Teacher Awardee (2011) – Dr. J. Suneetha, Head of the Department, Botany.

  29. Two Students of B.Sc BZC (E.M) got Pratibha Award in 2016-17 B.Chandini Sai Mounika and
  30. Three Students of M.Sc Botany got Pratibha Award in 2017-18 V. Sri Lakshmi Rani, A.Rajeswari, and B.Bhavani
  31. PG acquires Autonomy in 2018
  32. Final year PG students did their project work in collaboration with CTRI, Rajahmundry in 2017-18
  33. Dr.J.Suneetha has been designated professorship since 2013.
