On the occasion of Abel's Birthday, the Department of Mathematics and Matclub jointly organized a guest lecture on "Power Series in Ordinary Differential Equations" by Sri Maha Lakshmi Naidu, Lecturer in Mathematics, Perumalapuram, East Godavari, on August 5, 2024, at the Mana TV Room. In the lecture, Naidu explained the applications of power series in various fields, particularly in special functions. Many special functions, such as Bessel functions, Legendre polynomials, and Hermite polynomials, arise as solutions to differential equations and can be represented by power series. These functions have numerous applications in physics and engineering. Approximately 100 students participated and enjoyed the lecture. Additionally, PPT and elocution competitions were conducted, and prizes were distributed to the winners. The program was also attended by the principal, Prof. Ramachandra R.K., HOD G. Chandra Sekhar, and other lecturers from the Mathematics department.

Organizer(s):

Department of Mathematics and Matclub

Outcome:

1. **Enhanced Understanding of Power Series**: Students gained a deeper understanding of the applications of power series in ordinary differential equations and their significance in solving various mathematical problems. 2. **Exposure to Special Functions**: The lecture highlighted how special functions such as Bessel functions, Legendre polynomials, and Hermite polynomials can be represented by power series and their applications in physics and engineering. 3. **Increased Student Engagement**: Approximately 100 students actively participated in the lecture, indicating a high level of interest and engagement. 4. **Skill Development Through Competitions**: The PPT and elocution competitions provided students with opportunities to develop their presentation and communication skills. Winners were recognized and awarded prizes, motivating further academic excellence. 5. **Collaborative Learning Environment**: The participation of the principal, HOD, and other lecturers fostered a collaborative learning environment, encouraging interaction between students and faculty. 6. **Inspiration for Future Learning**: The lecture inspired students to explore advanced topics in mathematics and consider the practical applications of theoretical concepts in their future studies and careers.
