Date: 2nd May 2025
Venue: Dr BR Ambedkar Seminar Hall
The Department of Philosophy, Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry, celebrated Adi Shankara Jayanthi on 2nd May 2025 with reverence and philosophical enthusiasm. The event was organized to honor the life and teachings of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya, the great philosopher and spiritual reformer who consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta.
The program began with a welcome address and an introduction to the significance of Adi Shankara Jayanthi.
Dr. K. Sita Mahalakshmi, In-charge of the Department of Philosophy, delivered a profound speech on Shankaracharya’s life, mission, and spiritual services. She elaborated on his early life, his journey across India for philosophical debates, his establishment of the four mathas (monastic centers), and his unparalleled efforts in reviving Sanatana Dharma at a critical time in Indian history.
Following this, Sri Noojilla Srinivas, Lecturer in English, addressed the audience and highlighted Adi Shankara’s literary and philosophical contributions. He focused on the depth of Shankara’s commentaries on the Prasthana Traya (Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, and Brahmasutras), and how his writings continue to influence Indian philosophy, literature, and spirituality to this day.
Philosophy faculty members Sri Satyam Suryanarayana and Sri Muppidi Mahesh participated actively in the event and encouraged students to explore Shankara’s teachings further. A number of students from the Philosophy Department and other disciplines were present and engaged with the discussions meaningfully.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective recitation of select verses from Adi Shankara’s stotras, fostering a reflective and devotional atmosphere.
The celebration served not only as a tribute to one of India’s greatest philosophers but also as an opportunity to reconnect with the rich traditions of Indian philosophical thought.
