A team of 41 students of B.Sc. Organic Farming 2nd year students participated in a one-day field trip accompanied by the faculty members Mr. N. Nageswar Rao & Mr. R. D. Veda Vyas at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Maruteru, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. The group visited the fields where different rice varieties were being maintained fir field trails. Dr. M V Krishnaji explained various rice varieties and their cultivation practices. Students learned about the importance of breeding methods, various pests and diseases and their management practices and also how to control rats in the rice fields. They also visited Bio-control lab At the RARS, maruteru. The students were guided by Dr. Anand Kumar. He explained about physical, chemical and biological methods to control rodents and monkeys in the rice fields and also different practices to be taken in rice cultivation. Dr. Bharat Kumar explained about Integrated Farming System and various experimental plots maintained by scientists at RARS, Maruteru.

Outcome:

Understanding of practical knowledge on production of various rice breeds in their research trail plots. Knowledge on pest and crop management including vertebrate rodent eradication. Awareness of traditional crop varieties and their importance Acquainted knowledge on Integrated farming system. Laboratory knowledge on soil testing.

Students interacted with various fields of Agricultural scientists and agricultural polytechnic students and actively involved in field-based demonstrations and expressed their gratitude to the research institution for offering this type of technical knowledge.
