A team of 26 students of B.Sc. Organic Farming 1st year students participated in a one day field trip accompanied by the faculty members Dr. K. Nagendra Prasad & Mr. R. D. Veda Vyas at farm fields of cherukumilli village and Banana Research Station, Kovvur. The tour started from Government Degree College, Rajahmundry at 10:00 AM. The group visited a farm cultivating traditional desi rice varieties. Later, the students visited the Horticultural Research Station (HRS), Kovvur to observe horticultural research activities. The group visited a farm where different indigenous (desi) rice varieties were being cultivated. The farmer explained various traditional rice varieties and their cultivation practices. Students learned about the importance of natural farming methods and the role of traditional rice varieties in maintaining agricultural biodiversity, climate resilience, and nutritional value

Feedback:

Students acquainted knowledge on organic farming practices and desi rice varieties at field level through the interaction the progressive farmers and expressed their interest to promote natural farming and conservation of Desi varieties through the experience gained from this field trip. Students also gained knowledge on collection and maintenance of banana germplasm and tissue culture production through this visit.
