The educational visit to the Doppler Weather Radar Station - December 23, 2025

Date: December 23, 2025
Duration:

1 day(s)

Venue:

Doppler Weather Radar Station &Rolled Gold Jewellery Industries, Machilipatnam

Target:

I &IIMSc Students

Number of Participants:

39

The Department of Physics organized an educational field visit on 23 December to the Doppler Weather Radar Station and rolled gold jewellery industries at Machilipatnam for 28 M.Sc. Physics students along with 11 faculty members. The visit aimed to provide practical exposure to applications of physics in meteorology and industry. Students learned about weather observation methods, measurement of temperature and humidity, and the construction and working of the Doppler Weather Radar for detecting storms and rainfall patterns. They also observed industrial processes involved in jewellery manufacturing, particularly the electrolysis technique used for coating and finishing. The activity helped students connect theoretical concepts with real-time applications, making the learning experience highly informative and inspiring.

Organizer(s):

Department of Physics

Outcome:

Students gained practical knowledge of meteorological instruments and radar technology. Enhanced understanding of weather monitoring, storm detection, and data analysis. Improved ability to relate classroom theory with real-time applications in meteorology and industrial physics. Increased student interest and motivation towards research and applied physics fields.
