The Department of Physics, Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry, organized a two-day educational field trip on 16th and 17th March 2026 for 36 final-year B.Sc. Physics Honours students, accompanied by four faculty members, to Visakhapatnam. On the first day, the students visited the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), where they explored advanced research laboratories and interacted with scientists. Sanjay Singh guided the students through the facilities, and Dr. Jaganadh Raju delivered an insightful lecture on fundamental physics concepts, ongoing research at BARC, and career opportunities in the Department of Atomic Energy. On the second day, the students visited Andhra University, including the Departments of Physics and Nuclear Physics, where they observed experimental setups and the working of the Cockcroft–Walton accelerator. The tour also included a visit to Kailasagiri and the Doppler Radar Weather Station, helping students understand real-time applications of the Doppler Effect. The field trip provided valuable practical exposure, enhanced students’ understanding of scientific concepts, and motivated them towards higher studies and research in physics.

Organizer(s):

Dr. B. Gowri Naidu, Physics Faculty, along with Dr. B Gowri Naidu, Smt. B. Durga Lakshmi, Dr. H. Sudhakara Rao, and Smt.P. Padmavathi

Outcome:

Students gained practical exposure to advanced research laboratories and scientific instruments. The visit enhanced their understanding of nuclear physics and modern research techniques. Interaction with scientists provided clarity on career opportunities in BARC and scientific research organizations. The tour improved students’ analytical thinking, curiosity, and motivation towards higher studies. Exposure to real-world applications like the Doppler radar strengthened their conceptual learning
