National Workshop on Radiochemistry and Applications of Radioisotopes Commences at Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry
The Department of Physics, Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry, has conducted a five-day DAE BRNS-IANCAS National Workshop on "Radiochemistry and Applications of Radioisotopes in association with the Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists (IANCAS), Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai.
Dr. P. K. Mohapatra, Chief Guest from IANCAS, Senior Scientist, Former Director, Radiochemistry & Isotope Group, Radiochemistry Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai has inaugurated the workshop along with Dr. Ramachandra RK, Principal, Smt. Komala Lakshmi, Head, Department of Physics, Dr. B. Gowri Naidu, Organizing Secretary of the workshop, Government College (Autonomous), Rajahmundry and all the physics faculty members.
Following his inauguration, Mohapatra has given a key note lecture on Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) at a glance: Peaceful uses of atomic energy. He emphasized the key role of radiation in crucial sectors like health care, agriculture, food, energy, and sewerage treatment.
Dr. P. S. Ramanjaneyulu, IANCAS Convener, mentioned the applications of nuclear science for the benefit of the society and the main objective of the workshop has two folds, one is bringing the scientific temper among the people related to the nuclear science and bring the positive aspects of the nuclear radiation among the day to day life activities.
Dr. Sabyasachi Patra, Scientific Officer, explained the radioactive decay and interaction of radiation with matter.
The workshop was conducted from 3-7, February 2025, during this workshop may important topics like radioactive decay, nuclear structure and stability, and its applications and its detection. Carrier opportunities in DAE. Moreover, peaceful uses of nuclear energy like production of power, radioiostopes in heatlh care, agriculture, food and industry for societal benefits.
This national-level workshop is being organized under the aegis of the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, and the Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists (IANCAS) from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). It aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of radiochemistry and the diverse applications of radioisotopes in fields such as medicine, agriculture, industry, and environmental science.
This workshop aims to illuminate the significance of nuclear science and its diverse applications across various domains such as healthcare, agriculture, polymer sciences, biosciences/biotechnology, pharmaceutical sciences, environmental sciences, and industry. Moreover, it endeavors to dispel misconceptions prevalent in society regarding nuclear sciences. BARC Distinguished Scientists and Experts specialized in nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, nuclear reactors, radioisotope production and application, as well as health and safety aspects, were the key speakers for this workshop. The daily program structure included 3-4 lectures during the morning sessions followed by experimental sessions in the afternoon. These sessions featured hands-on laboratory experiments designed to enrich and benefit the participating individuals.
Faculties, Research scholars and Post-graduate were participated from various states and colleges across the India in this prestigious DAE BRNS – IANCAS National Workshop.
