AP LEGISLATURE VISIT
The students of the Department of Political Science, Government College (A) Rajahmundry undertook an academic field visit to the AP Legislative Assembly on 23 February 2026. This visit was organized as part of their curriculum to provide practical exposure to the functioning of the state legislature and to enhance their understanding of democratic governance. A total of 94 students, accompanied by faculty members, participated in the visit.
The primary objective of the visit was to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-time legislative practices. As students of Political Science, they have been studying constitutional provisions, legislative procedures, law-making processes, and democratic institutions in theory. The Assembly visit offered them an opportunity to observe these concepts in action and gain first-hand experience of the working of the legislative body.
During the visit, students had the privilege of witnessing the live proceedings of the Assembly session. They carefully observed the introduction of bills, discussions and debates by members, questioning procedures, voting methods, and the process involved in passing bills. The experience enabled them to understand how laws are formulated, debated, amended, and approved within the framework of parliamentary procedures. Observing the roles of the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly further enriched their practical knowledge of legislative functioning.
The visit also helped students appreciate the importance of democratic values such as representation, accountability, transparency, and deliberation. By witnessing live debates, they understood the significance of opposition and treasury benches in policy discussions. The field visit deepened their awareness of how public issues are raised and addressed through institutional mechanisms.
The Principal of Government College (A), Rajahmundry, Dr. Rama Chandra RK, encouraged the initiative and extended financial support to ensure the smooth conduct of the program. Two buses were arranged for transportation, and necessary arrangements such as breakfast, lunch, and drinking water were provided to all participants to ensure their comfort and safety during the trip.
The Commissioner ate of Collegiate Education facilitated the visit by issuing entry passes to the students and faculty members and extending the required cooperation for their entry into the Assembly premises.
